Acne

There are many treatments for moderate acne such as creams, washes and medications (mild and strong). However, your doctor may decide that certain medications, such as antibiotics, aren't right for you.

There is now a new treatment available that doesn't depend on oral medication. It's called the BLU-U® Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy Illuminator.  The BLU-U offers effective, non-invasive and pain-free blue light treatment for moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris, a condition affecting millions of adults, teens and children in the United States.

The first step is to have a Levulan® topical solution applied to the acne and the individual Actinic Keratoses on the skin.  This solution makes the acne and Actinic Keratoses more sensitive to light, which prepares the skin for the second step in the process.

After leaving the topical solution on the skin for 15-60 minutes, therapy continues with a Blu Light Laser Treatment.  A Blue Light Treatment session lasts 4-16 minutes and can cause minimal discomfort because of the nature of the Levulan® Kerastick® topical solution.  This discomfort usually improves immediately after treatment and ends within 24 hours.

How does the BLU-U work?

The BLU-U is a special blue light that can kill the p. acnes bacteria and will activate Levulan® this is called Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) in your skin. You simply sit with your face close to the light for a short time at a schedule set up by your Regeneration Medispa and Salon doctor.
